What’s 5HTP?

5HTP Powder is one of our main products. We extract from the Griffonia Seed, it is 98% purity, and off white color powder. 5-HTP is a chemical byproduct of the protein building block L-tryptophan. It is produced commercially from the seeds of an African plant known as Griffonia simplicifolia. 

5-HTP is a natural amino acid in the human body and a chemical precursor of serotonin.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps make chemicals that make us feel good. The human body produces serotonin in the following ways:

Tryptophan→5-HTP→Serotonin:

5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation.

How does it work?

5-hydroxytryptophan powder is an amino acid, it works in the body as a precursor of serotonin (5-HT) (which in turn acts as a precursor of melatonin). Griffonia Seeds are rich in 5-hydroxytryptophan, which is currently the main natural source of 5-HTP. 5-HTP is classified as a pharmaceutical ingredient in some countries.  In the United States, The United Kingdom and Canada, 5-HTP is marketed as a dietary supplement.

Taking 5HTP can be converted into serotonin in the body, but serotonin cannot cross the blood-brain barrier to enter the brain. Therefore, 5-HTP must first cross the blood-brain barrier and then be converted into serotonin in the brain before it, just like this, it plays role in stabilizing mood and promoting sleep quality.
